Karnataka government likely to ammend Karnataka Lokayukta Act, 1984

to allow Upa Lokayuktas to step in as the competent authority if a complaint is lodged against the Lokayukta or his family.

The amendment is aimed at increasing transparency within the quasi-judicial system.

The proposed amendment comes in the wake of a number of serious allegations against a former Lokayukta, which raised concerns about independent and impartial inquiry into cases surrounding him or her.

India urged Turkey to not interfere in its internal affairs
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Islamabad compared the situation in Kashmir with the Gallipoli campaign of the World War II and extended support to Pakistan.
He termed India’s recent actions in Kashmir as “unilateral”.
India urged Turkey to not interfere in its internal affairs and reminded Ankara of the threat of terrorism emanating from Pakistan.
Apart from Pakistan, Turkey and Malaysia have been vocal critics of India’s decision to end the special status of Kashmir.

Ramayana Express
The Railways plans to run a new train, Ramayana Express, with Ramayana-themed interiors and religious songs playing on board to give the passengers a feeling of ‘traveling in a temple.’
The train will originate from different locations, north, south, east and west, so that people from across the country can avail its services. The exterior and the interiors of the train will be Ramayana-themed.

India Pavillion at Gulfood 2020 in Dubai
Minister for Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal will inaugurate the India Pavillion at the event on February 16.
the pavillion will have more than 300 Indian companies will showcase a diverse array of food products.
the food trade between India and UAE is $1.4 billion with the major exports from India to UAE being cereals, edible fruits and nuts, coffee, tea, spices, vegetables, sugar, meat, fish and dairy.
India’s food industry output is expected to reach $535 billion by 2025-26 and the country ranks first in milk, livestock, and millets production and second in fruits, vegetables and rice production.

Tap water to 15 crore houses by 2024
The Centre would provide tap water connections to 15 crore homes of the country by 2024
A budget of Rs 6,000 crore will be spent on water conservation and recharging water in seven states of Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The water situation in 60% of Haryana is worrisome.
Under the scheme, the Centre government will provide the drinking water connections to 15 crore households and an amount of Rs 3.40 lakh crore will be spent on this and this target will be completed by the year 2024.

India’s Bhawna Jat qualifies for Tokyo Olympics
Indian women athlete Bhawna Jat secured a Tokyo Olympics 2020 quota in 20 km race walk event after achieving a new national record at the National Race Walk Championships.
The 24-year-old clocked a record time of 1 hour, 29 minutes and 54 seconds in the 7th National Race Walk Championships in Rachi, Jharkhand. She comfortably beat the Olympic qualification mark of 1:31.00.
Jat who hails from Rajasthan has also broke her personal best record of 1:38.30 that she achieved in October last year.
