·        Private schools oppose policy on fee structure in Karnataka

ð  Private school managements in Karnataka have taken objection to the State government’s new policy on fee structure. The Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka on Tuesday called an emergency meeting of its members to discuss the matter.

ð  Last month, the government notified the Karnataka Education Institutions (Classification, Regulation and Prescription of curricula) Amendment Rules, 2018. While parents have welcomed the long-pending move, private schools, which had initially hailed it, have done a U-turn.

ð  As per to the new fee structure, besides recurring costs, the additional fee that can be sought by a school differs from location to location and ranges from 70% in gram panchayat and town panchayat limits to almost 100% in BBMP areas.

ð  Another issue the managements have pointed out is that the special development fee has been raised to ₹2,500. D. Shashi Kumar, general secretary of the Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka, said all the expenditure of the schools, which is the maintenance cost, has increased because of demonetisation and GST. He said there was a need for the department to enhance this amount to at least ₹10,000.
