Karnataka approves new sandalwood policy: No curbs to grow and sell
The state cabinet approved the Karnataka State Sandalwood Policy 2022. The government plans to introduce the policy soon. Currently, farmers must provide details on the number of saplings they intend to plant and secure permission from the department to cut the trees. Farmers are allowed to sell sandalwood logs only at the depots run by the forest department. Health minister K Sudhakar, who briefed reporters after the meeting, said sandalwood is in high demand in both domestic and international markets.
They will insert microchips in trees to help track them even if they are stolen, the minister said. The cabinet also gave approval to construct a new campus for Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) at Archakarahalli, near Ramanagara town, at a cost of Rs 600 crore.
Trade turnover with India may come close to $30 billion by end of 2022: Russian embassy
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov held talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and they noted bilateral trade turnover may reach USD 30 billion by the end of this year, according to a statement released by the Russian embassy.
The talks between Manturov and Jaishankar were held in the format of India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC).
Exercise Sea Vigil-22
Exercise Sea Vigil was conceptualized in 2018 to strengthen India’s coastal defence by improving coordination between various stakeholders.
It is a build-up towards the larger TROPEX exercise.
It covers India’s entire 7,516 km coastline as well as 2 million sq km of Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
This national-level exercise provides the opportunity at the apex level to assess India’s preparedness in the maritime security domain and the coastal defence.
It provides a realistic assessment of India’s strengths and weaknesses and helps the country boost its maritime and national security.
The exercise is the largest in India in terms of geographical extent, the number of stakeholders, the number of units involved, and the broad objectives.
6 years after demonetisation, digital transactions rising but cash prevails in real estate sector: Survey
ix years after demonetisation, people are still paying or accepting black money in real estate transactions and many continue to buy and sell products without proper receipts, according to a LocalCircles survey.
Although many have adopted digital modes of payment — with the shift gathering pace during the pandemic — the verdict on demonetisation is still not clear on whether it has delivered its set goal of weeding out black money and checking the growth of the parallel economy.
LocalCircles said that 44% of those surveyed, who bought a property in the last 7 years, had to pay a component in cash.
TRAI organises Conference on ‘Rating of Buildings or Areas for Digital Connectivity’
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has organized a Conference on “Rating of Buildings or Areas for Digital Connectivity”. In the year 2022, when country is celebrating AzadikaAmritMahotsav, TRAI has also completed 25-years of its existence. The Conference is organized as a part its year-long silver Jubilee celebration.
