- Karnataka jumbos in demand, 36 gifted to other states in a year
- With elephant camps in Karnataka bustling with captured and trained pachyderms, foresters from various states have been knocking on the state’s doors seeking jumbos.
- In the past one year, as many as 36 elephants from Karnataka have been handed over to different states. The maximum have gone to Uttarakhand, followed by West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Jharkhand.
- Karnataka doesn’t charge money for the transfer but the state where the elephants are shifted has to bear the transportation costs.
